The Word Search Puzzle may be downloaded for free. This is the Evaluation version. Some of its features will remain locked until you purchase the key to unlock it. We recommend that you first try the Evaluation version of the program to see if you like its features and to see if your web server is capable of serving the puzzle applet. Click the Download button to download the program. If you are given an option to Run or Save the program, select the option to save it. The file it downloads will be called WordSearchPuzzleSetup1.2.3.exe or WordSearchPuzzleWithJRESetup1.2.3.exe. Make a note of where it is downloading this file on your computer.

Install

1. Double click on the WordSearchPuzzleSetup1.2.3.exe or WordSearchPuzzleWithJRESetup1.2.3.exe file that you just downloaded.
2. You may take all the defaults.
3. Click Install to finish the installation.

If you got a warning that "The publisher could not be verified", you may ignore the message. See our support page for more details.

Create a New Puzzle

To create your own puzzle, perform the following steps

1. Start the Word Search Puzzle by double clicking the Word Search Puzzle Setup icon on your desktop or in your Start Menu. If you are currently using the Evaluation version, the Unregistered Copy of Word Search Puzzle window will appear. If you wish to continue using it as an Evaluation version, simply click the OK button. If you want to register your copy of Word Search Puzzle, go to the Register/Purchase page to register it. After you register it, you will be sent a Registration Name and Key. To get your program out of Evaluation mode you need to enter the Registration Name and Key in the Unregistered Copy of Word Search Puzzle window exactly as they are sent to you, including spaces and upper/lower case letters, and click the OK button.
2. Click New Puzzle.
3. This will open the New Puzzle window.
4. Type a Puzzle Name.
5. Click Change Size/Settings if you want size or settings different from the current settings.
   • Enter new options for Puzzle Size, Word Direction, Allow words to overlap, Allow words to bend, and Secret Message and press the Enter key
6. Type words in the text field at the top of the Add/Order/Delete Words column. Press the Enter key after typing each word. This will add the words to the Word List
7. Enter some text into the Solution Text box.
8. You may let the Text Above Word List default
9. Enter some text for a Secret Message or leave it blank
10. Click OK to finish setting up your new puzzle.
11. Click Save Puzzle Set, File / Save or Ctrl-S to save your changes. Note if you are using the Evaluation version, your changes will not be saved.
12. Click Exit, File / Exit or Ctrl-X to exit the program.

This is only a quick start tutorial, to quickly create a new puzzle. There are many more options you can use to help tailor the puzzle to your specific needs. Please refer to the User's Guide for the details of those options.

Try Out Your New Puzzles

You might want to try out your new puzzles yourself before putting them on the web. To try out your puzzles:

1. Double click the Word Search Puzzle icon on your desktop or in your Start Menu.
2. There are three ways to select the hidden words. Use one of the following methods:
   • Drag your mouse across the words hidden in the puzzle
   • Hold down the shift key, click on each of the letters hidden in the puzzle, then release the shift key.
   • Click the Keyboard Input Help radio button to read how to use keyboard input. Click the Keyboard Input On radio button to activate keyboard input.
   If you selected a valid word, it will mark the word and cross it off from the word list.
3. Once you've found all the hidden words, it will reveal the Solution Text and Secret Message that was created with the puzzle.

Put Your Puzzle on the Web

Doing the puzzle design is only the first part of the process. You will need to put your puzzle on the web to give others access your puzzle:

1. Use My Computer to navigate to and open the folder where the web files are stored:
   • If you are using Windows XP, the web files can be found in c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Godtland Software\Word Search Puzzle\web.
   • If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, the web file can be found in c:\ProgramData\Godtland Software\Word Search Puzzle\web.
2. Upload all the files from the web directory to your website.
3. Put a link from one of your web pages to the WordSearchPuzzle.html file.

This is only a quick start tutorial, to quickly get your puzzle on the web. There are ways to also put the puzzle inside your own existing web page. Please refer to the User's Guide for further details.

Working With the Puzzle on the Web

1. Enter the URL to the page with the puzzle in your web browser.
2. You can now work with it just as when you tried it out before putting it on the web.

Non-Windows Operating Systems

Currently, the only Word Search Puzzle installer available is for the Windows Operating System. Otherwise, the Word Search Puzzle could also be run on any operating system supported by the Java JRE version 1.6.0. If you would like a copy of the Word Search Puzzle Evaluation version or Registered version without the Windows Installer so you could manually install it on another operating system, please contact us at sales@godtlandsoftware.com.
