The Word Search Puzzle program is a program created to make it easy for you to design your own interactive word search puzzles that you can run on your computer, share on the web, or insert into another document.

Design

The Puzzle Designer allows you to preview existing puzzle sets and create and save new puzzle sets. Within each puzzle set you can create, edit, scramble, rearrange and delete puzzles. You can also export the puzzles and or puzzle solutions to more easily insert the puzzles into any other word processor to be printed out and solved on paper.

New Puzzle

When you create a new puzzle, you must give it a Puzzle Name, and a Word List. Many tools are provided to make it easy to add words, such as an Auto Word Generator that will build a Word List from an article you may have copied and pasted from elsewhere, and split, join, rearrange, sort, and delete words. This is also where you will set the puzzle size, choose word options like direction, overlap, bend and secret message placement, as well as where you will provide text or a web page to be displayed when they solve the puzzle. You may also choose whether or not you want it to display the words that didn't fit, or if you even want it to display the words at all. Plus you may change the default text that will be shown above the word list in the puzzle or enter a secret message that will be hidden in the spaces not used by the hidden words.

Putting your Puzzle on the Web

When you save your changes in the Puzzle Designer, it will create the javascript needed for running the puzzle. To put your puzzle on a web page, you simply need to copy the generated javascript file and jar file to your website and insert the javascript tags into the HTML code of your web page.

Using the Puzzle

When your puzzle is on your web site, users may try to solve your puzzle, see a hint (circle the letter of one of the words not yet found), clear the puzzle to solve it again, scramble the puzzle again to search for the same words in new locations, or switch between puzzles in your puzzle set.

Users also have the option of using the mouse or keyboard input to mark the words hidden in the puzzle. As they mark each word hidden in the puzzle, the words will be crossed off the list for them.

The color of the bar at the top of the puzzle may be set to any color during design, allowing you to better coordinate the colors of the generated puzzle with your website.

When the Puzzle is Solved

When users correctly solve the puzzle, they will see the Secret Message and will either see the simple Solution Text, as shown above, or will be taken to some other web page of your choosing from when you design the puzzle. This provides a double satisfaction to the users of your puzzle: first is the satisfaction of solving the puzzle, and second, it is the only way to see what you had wanted them to see when they solved the puzzle.
