For the Love of Crafts

The mother/daughter team that started Odonettica, Annette Godtland and Leah Darst, love doing many kinds of crafts. Between them they do wire wrapping, metal working, bead making, bead weaving, crocheting, tatting, rug making, garland making, quilting, drawing, painting, wood carving, and much more.

Why the Dragonfly?

Annette and Leah both like dragonflies. Dragonfly symbolism:

Dragonflies symbolize whirlwind, swiftness and activity.

The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change. The dragonfly's agile flight and its ability to move in all six directions exudes a sense of power and poise. The dragonfly accomplishes its objectives with utmost simplicity and effectiveness, with elegance and grace.

The dragonfly spends most of its life as a nymph. It does everything in the few months of its adult life. This lifestyle exemplifies living in the moment, living life to the fullest.

Almost 80% of the insectís brain power is dedicated to its sight. The dragonfly can see in all 360 degrees around it. In that way, dragonflies symbolize the uninhibited vision of the mind and the ability to see beyond the self.

Don't be surprised to find dragonflies being incorporated into some of our crafts!

Read more about dragonfly symbolism at the Dragonfly Site. There's also a very encouraging dragonfly story about death as a transition to a better life in The Story of the Dragonfly.

Why the name "Odonettica"?

The scientific name for the dragonfly is Odonata. Odonettica is a combination of the scientific name for the dragonfly, and a play on Annette's name.
